Sports News Mashup   

Here is a simple ad-hoc application for someone who desires to quickly get the sports news of the day.

Sports Explorer Mashup

Assembly Instructions
  1. Create a copy of the Explorer Template page
  2. Click on Assemble button
  3. Drag the Sports Channel List from the Widget Palette of Lists and drop onto first row of the template
  4. Drag the Google News Widget from the Search Utilities draw in the Widget Palette onto the right column in the second row of the template
  5. Click on the eyecatcher for the Google Search widget and set the search property to the [sportscategory] field of the selected Sports Channel
  6. Drag the Wikipedia Widget from the Search Utilities draw in the Widget Palette onto the left column in the second row of the template
  7. Click on the eyecatcher for the Wikipedia widget and set the search property to the [sportscategory] field of the selected Sports Channel. You may want to adjust the size as well.
  8. Click on the View button
  9. Click on a Sport in the Sports Channel feed.

Under the Hood
This mashup consumes a RSS sports channel feed as a mechanism to drive the mashup. This feed from ESPN has been stored as a List within the Wiki. By selecting a specific sport in the list we can execute two parallel searches against Google News and Wikipedia. This demonstration depicts the simple and flexible use of web based Search Widgets.
